December 19th, 2011

Today we visited a Koala Refuge and had dinner with Clare and Simon

We took a boat to the Koala Refuge and we enjoyed the scenery along the way.

One of the first things we did was hold a koala. As one would expect, they smell like a musky cough drop.

Next, we went to see the Kangaroos.

The local turkeys seem to be everywhere and not wary of people. We saw them in the parks around Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The emus have so many comical expressions (and long eye lashes). (See Wiki.)

This little guy is kind of strange looking in a very cute way. He is a Tawny Frogmouth and is native to Australia. There are many cute pictures on the Wiki page.

How about another koala?

This very strange beetle seems to be molting. It was not on display, I just happened to see it and will try to figure out just what it is.

Here we are waiting for the water taxi (called City Cat). In the middle picture, Peter is reviewing the scenery along the way. The bottom picture is of our taxi destination near the resturant where we had dinner. This was beyond walking-distance, up-river.
