Day 17 of our Visit to Australia and New Zealand

December 26th, 2011

We arrived in Moturoa today.

The drive last night was uneventful and it was fun to be catching up with Justin. We got in after 11pm last night. It was a long day. As requested our rooms at this motel were left open for us, with the keys inside. On Monday morning, Peter and I got up and went to the grocery store nearby. We had picked up several boxes of supplies to take to Moturoa. Included was granola and milk, which we made use of for breakfast. Here we are having breakfast outside of our motel in Kerikeri.

We didn't waste any time getting out to explore the island.

We made it down to the beach and started looking for treasures. I think we decided that this was part of a marine animal?

Down at the beach, Carol had us check penguin burrows. Spencer was able to get his camera situated right and take this picture of a blue penguin chick in its burrow. WOW! (see wiki)

A favorite spot on Moturoa are the WW2 gun emplacements. On the way home, Justin Spencer and Peter stop to do a bit of trail maintenance by moving a stray eucalyptus limb.

Here is the view from Carol and CJ's, one of my favorite parts of being here is looking out the window and wondering where to explore next.
