Day 19 of our Visit to Australia and New Zealand

December 28th, 2011

On Moturoa, New Zealand

We spent too long exploring one beach and the tide came in. CJ, Justin, Spencer and Peter went across; Steph, Carol and I stayed and explored more of the shore where we started.

In the top picture, CJ is logging a dead gannet. As mentioned in yesterday's page, Paul is trying to build up the gannet population in this area and we'd rather have seen this one diving into the bay to get his lunch, but seeing it like this has provided an opportunity to admire the beauty of their elegantly-lined beaks and eyes; their yellow heads; and, their robin's egg blue-beaded feet.

The Pōhutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) is a familiar site here. (see WIki)
