Day 1 – Fly to Quito, the capital of Ecuador

Our travels started yesterday actually. This was because we took a 6am flight from San Francisco to Miami, so we stayed in a hotel near the airport. This hotel had shuttles leaving every half hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and we scheduled ourselves for a 4 am shuttle. This hotel also provides 14 days of free parking with the cost of the room AND the room prices were reasonable AND it was a nice hotel. At the end of the trip, we discovered that our car had a dead battery and to make this deal seem even better, they jumped the car battery for us. All things considered, we plan to use this hotel again. (Link to Best Western Plus, El Rancho Inn) Thanks to this arrangement, 6 am flights seem a lot less daunting.

Waiting for our luggage

The baggage carousel was empty and we were still waiting for our last bag. As it turned out, the suitcase had been taken off the carousel, or maybe it arrived through a different means. Well, we were nervous about it. It also looked like someone had opened the bag as the tie-wrap was gone. Nothing was disturbed and except for a few tense moments, all was well.
