Our 2009 European Trip, August 12th, Day 24

Today, we were in Rome. We visited Forum and Palatine Hill in the AM; and the Vatican in the PM.

Notes related to the pictures are posted below the picture. You can enlarge pictures by rolling over them.
Forum3
The Forum has quite a bit of modern sculpture. We decided that this grouping was supposed to be speakers.....

Claudius
Statue of the Emperor Claudius for the Vatican. As indicated in the plaque near the statue, "Found in Lanuvio in 1865, this piece originally decorated the theatre in this Roman settlement.  Claudius, emperor from 37 to 54 AD, is shown as Jupiter, wearing the civil crown of oak leaves with the eagle at his feet."

Having seen (and loved) the BBC version of I Claudius, I enjoyed seeing the status of the emperor.

VaticanDinner
The only photograph from a restaurant where we had dinner near the Vatican. The food was OK, but creative billing techniques were used on our check. We were all awe-struck by Steph's ability to argue with the waiter in Italian.
